Study on reduction of total bandwidth requirement by traffic dispersion - ATM (ICATM 2001) and High Speed Intelligent Internet Symposium, 2001. Joint 4th IEEE International

چکیده
This paper studies the effect of traffic dispersion on the reduction of the total effective bandwidth requirement. In this paper, we consider a discrete-time queueing system and a particular source model which is called generalized binary Markov source (GBMS). We then focus on the effective bandwidth of GBMS. We provide some numerical results to investigate the effect of traffic dispersion on the total bandwidth requirement. The numerical results show that traffic dispersion is useful to reduce the total effective bandwidth required by GBMS.

Admission control in time-slotted multihop mobile networks
The emergence of nomadic applications have recently generated a lot of interest in next-generation wireless network infrastructures [e.g., the 3G enhanced general packet radio services (EGPRS), UMTS/IMT-2000, etc.] which provide differentiated service classes. So it is important to study how the quality of service (QoS), such as packet loss and bandwidth, should be guaranteed. To accomplish thi...
متن کاملBandwidth Adaptation for Traffic Flow in Connectionless Service over ATM Networks
Increasing traffic on the Internet and intranets has raised demands for high-speed, large-scale and cost-effective computer networking techniques. ATM connectionless service provides high-speed, highly scalable, and flexible services because connectionless networks are constructed logically over high-speed ATM networks. This paper described the self-sizing operation for high-speed, large-scale ...
متن کاملBandwidth allocation scheme in ATM networks based on virtual path for different quality of service (QoS) requirements
Bandwidth allocation is a very important issue in ATM networks, especially when there are random fluctuating demands for service and variations in the service rates. In order to make ATM reliable, ATM is designed to support not only a wide range of traffic classes with diverse flow characteristics but also to guarantee the different Quality of Service (QoS) requirement as well. The QoS may be m...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Bandwidth Allocation Schemes in Multiservice IP Networks using Utility Functions
The Internet needs to evolve from a single-service data network into the multiservice intelligent network capable of satisfying diverse performance requirements. The way network resources, primarily bandwidth, is shared, is one of the key issues in this evolution. This paper analyses the concept of bandwidth partitioning, in which each link in the network is partitioned into a number of sublink...
متن کاملDSS: A Deterministic and Scalable QoS Provisioning Scheme
The design of traffic management schemes for multimedia applications is a challenge for the future Internet. The main problem is the high burstiness of the multimedia traffic. Most of the traffic management schemes try to minimize the total bandwidth required to serve multimedia applications. However, these schemes typically suffer from a poor scalability. Rather than minimizing the burstiness ...
